These lovely Floor Baskets feature leather handles and are hand woven from sisal by Akamba women in the Machakos region in Kenya.  Each piece is laboriously crafted from hand twisted sisal in the traditional Wakamba method of open weaving.  The coloration is achieved by using nature's own colorants such as Mango leaf, tree bark and plant roots. These unique baskets are are given as gifts to the bride during the Akamba community traditional wedding ceremonies. The sisal baskets are woven by the bride’s grandmother or aunt. 

A perfect union of tradition, glorious hand crafted weaving, and super useful storage solution. When you bring these baskets home, you bring the stories of the makers, too. You can stylishly stash away clutter while supporting talented women artisans with your purchase.
