Zen Garden Beach Day

A tabletop sand garden with a beach theme. The kit includes a 3 x 3-inch tray, a bag of sand, a wooden rake, and miniature accessories: an umbrella, starfish, towel, flip flops, and a tropical beverage. A 32-page mini book is also included.

Drawing the rake through the sand leaves the same smooth lines each pass, and smoothing them out starts the pattern again. Rhythmic regulation profiles use repetitive, predictable, and continuously recurring motor patterns to maintain attentional engagement, and benefit from the consistency, cadence, and predictability of repeated physical actions (Nakamura & Csikszentmihalyi, 2002). A tabletop sand garden with a rake best fits the preference for repetitive hand motions and predictable movement patterns. Repetitive activities often contain the conditions associated with flow states, including sustained attention, clear procedural structure, and immediate sensory feedback (Nakamura & Csikszentmihalyi, 2002).
