Walnut Doll Charm & Painted Face

The Walnut Doll Charm & Painted Face has a hood and body of textured nut shells, a hand-painted red face with bright eyes and a button nose, tiny seed arms and ears, and shiny reddish-brown chestnut feet. It hangs from a suede or leather cord loop.

The rough nut shell and the glossy chestnut feet give the hand a contrast of surfaces to rub. Grounding-oriented profiles are characterized by a need for continuous, familiar, or consistent somatosensory information to stay aware of the physical body and the present moment (Dunn, 2001). A small nut figure with a rough shell and glossy chestnut feet best fits the preference for carrying an object and rubbing or handling it. Objects like this offer continuous somatosensory input through surface texture, geometry, and thermal properties (McGlone et al., 2014), and consistent input helps people with low registration remain physically oriented within their environment (Dunn, 2001).
