Tiny Recycled Tin Tortoise Figurine
The tin tortoise is a tiny figurine made from old tin cans and other scraps of metal.
The artists cut and shape the metal with snips, pliers and hammers, and a second artist paints each piece. The tortoise measures 1 inch high, 2.5 inches long and 2 inches wide.
The figurine sits on a shelf, desk or windowsill.
Organic shapes and natural asymmetry are appealing because their irregular contours lessen neural processing in the LOC and reduce amygdala activity, leading to a calm, low-anxiety visual experience (Bar & Neta, 2007). Biophilic and naturalistic shapes boost occipital alpha band activity (8 to 12 Hz), suggesting less cognitive effort and better visual integration (Zarnegarzadeshirazi & Soroush, 2026). Handcrafted and organically shaped items provide neural comfort and emotional stability, making them a preferred choice for visual ease.
