Built from kiln-dried tulip poplar, a hardwood native to the eastern United States, this queen platform bed arrives unfinished for staining or painting.
Tulip poplar belongs to the magnolia family and takes its name from the tulip-shaped flowers it carries in spring. Its straight, even grain accepts paint smoothly and takes stain as well. A pre-stain wood conditioner helps the stain go on evenly, and the wood deepens in color over the years as light reaches it.
Wooden slats run across the frame and carry the mattress directly, and a slatted headboard rises behind the pillows.
Paint it for a guest room, stain it for a primary bedroom, or set it up in an apartment or dorm room where a queen fits.
