Handcrafted Natural Seed Percussion

The Forest Woodblock is a hand percussion instrument made from a large, dried hollow fruit shell with a carved sound hole.

A small wooden mallet on a cord strikes the shell and produces a deep, hollow, woody tok. The pitch and tone vary from shell to shell, and the unpolished surface keeps natural grooves and rough patches.

A strap of mixed Bodhi seeds, wooden beads and red and yellow beads loops over the wrist or hangs on a wall.

Sound engages the auditory and cognitive pathways, creating structured mental focus used for clarity, memory, and shared meaning (Kraus & Chandrasekaran, 2010). This experience feels grounding because it provides biological benefits that support attention (Posner & Rothbart, 2007), emotional steadiness (Panksepp, 1998), and communal presence (Dunbar, 2010).

Pairing Note

Sound shapes how people settle into a moment. Across cultures, quiet cues, pouring, brushing, stirring, footsteps, fabric movement, help people slow down, release tension, and be more present. When sound pairs with different objects, each combination changes the atmosphere in its own way, shifting the body from more of one thing to more of something else. Visual: When sound meets visual form, clarity rises. Clear shapes and layouts help people follow what they hear (Larkin & Simon, 1987). As confusion drops, understanding becomes easier (Mayer, 2005). This pairing creates steady visuals that deepen the emotional tone (Juslin & Västfjäll, 2008), and as the moment becomes clearer, they become more meaningful.
