Compass Rose Wall Clock

A compass rose in black and white marks the face of this wall clock.

The compass rose is the figure mapmakers print on charts to mark north, east, south, and west and the points between them. The clock turns that navigational figure into a dial.

Placed on any wall, this clock keeps time while its compass-inspired design adds a nautical touch to the room.

The way certain art and decor elements are visually arranged draws us in by decreasing threat monitoring in the vHPC and BLA circuit, which evaluates spatial safety (Silva & Girardeau, 2026). Curved shapes and deep layers are comforting because they reduce brain activity and support a sense of security in our surroundings (Silva & Girardeau, 2026; Kong et al., 2021). “Refuge” qualities such as curved silhouettes, inward contours, and layered depth decrease BLA activation and stabilize spatial encoding in the vHPC (Kong et al., 2021). Together, these elements foster a peaceful, subdued visual experience, which may explain the human inclination toward objects that offer both openness and a sense of enclosure.
