Rainbow Branch Wood & Seed Mobile

A horizontal mobile hangs from a real twig wrapped in multi-colored braided thread, with three strands of seeds: a large light hollow seed in the center that knocks softly against the branch, and a smooth dark reddish-brown nut on either side.

The bark of the twig, the wrapped thread, and the smooth nuts give the fingers a mix of textures, and the hollow seed knocks softly against the branch. Grounding-oriented profiles are characterized by a need for continuous, familiar, or consistent somatosensory information to stay aware of the physical body and the present moment (Dunn, 2001). A small branch mobile with smooth nuts and a hollow seed best fits the preference for carrying an object and rubbing or handling it. Objects like this offer continuous somatosensory input through surface texture, geometry, and thermal properties (McGlone et al., 2014), and consistent input helps people with low registration remain physically oriented within their environment (Dunn, 2001).
