Carved Wood Bear Seed Charm

A hand-carved wooden bear in a warm orange-brown finish wears a carved wooden bead on top that resembles a small crown. A large textured natural nut hangs alongside, with a bundle of beige tassels, on a hand-twisted multi-colored rope in blue, yellow, and red.

The smooth carved bear and the rough natural nut give the hand a contrast of surfaces to rub and hold. Grounding-oriented profiles are characterized by a need for continuous, familiar, or consistent somatosensory information to stay aware of the physical body and the present moment (Dunn, 2001). A smooth wooden bear charm with a rough natural nut best fits the preference for carrying an object and rubbing or handling it. Objects like this offer continuous somatosensory input through surface texture, geometry, and thermal properties (McGlone et al., 2014), and consistent input helps people with low registration remain physically oriented within their environment (Dunn, 2001).
