Naptime Kitty Wood Cat Seed Charm

A hand-carved wooden cat stands on its hind legs with a peaceful closed-eye expression, above large, polished dark brown and beige seeds that are smooth to hold. A thick multi-colored tassel in blue, orange, and earth tones and small turquoise-colored spacer beads hang from a woven cord. It clips to a bag as a charm.

The smooth carved cat and the large, polished seeds give the hand steady surfaces to rub and hold. Grounding-oriented profiles are characterized by a need for continuous, familiar, or consistent somatosensory information to stay aware of the physical body and the present moment (Dunn, 2001). A carved wooden cat charm with smooth seeds best fits the preference for carrying an object and rubbing or handling it. Objects like this offer continuous somatosensory input through surface texture, geometry, and thermal properties (McGlone et al., 2014), and consistent input helps people with low registration remain physically oriented within their environment (Dunn, 2001).
