Bonny sur Loire Barrel Crock
Salt or brown glaze covers the surface of this vintage French barrel crock. Rounded sides, a wide opening, and integrated handles define its traditional storage vessel form.
Clay from the Loire Valley was formed and fired using traditional methods that included salt glazing at high temperatures. Variations in glaze color, dimensions, and surface character reflect the original manufacturing process and the vintage nature of the pottery.
In 1847, Stanislas Renault built a factory in a small Loire Valley village to use the local clay. The company no longer produces these pieces, which were uncovered there, so quantities are limited.
Aromatic dried flowers, pantry staples, knitting supplies, craft materials, kitchen utensils, and garden accessories all suit the interior of the crock. The range of available sizes supports both storage and display throughout the home.
Rounded shapes affect how people respond to an object.
Our tendency to prefer curved, organic shapes stems from the LOC's lower neural processing demands for smooth contours, resulting in reduced amygdala activation and a safe, calming visual state (Bar & Neta, 2006). Angular or sharply defined shapes increase amygdala response because abrupt contour changes signal potential threat, producing a more alert, high-arousal experience. This is why rounded or softly contoured pieces feel visually stable and why individuals choose them when they need calm, ease, or emotional steadiness. Any product with a gentle curvature provides this low-arousal, visual comfort.
