Lavender Face + Pillow Mist
The Lavender Face + Pillow Mist is lavender water in a bottle with a clear spray top.
Lavender water is the water-based distillate collected when lavender flowers are steam distilled. The mist is sprayed on the face or a pillow or into the air, and the bottle travels in a purse or luggage.
Essential oils do more than just smell good. For more information on essential oils and their effects, see my Herbarium Distillate Blog.
Aroma activates the olfactory and limbic systems, creating spatial and emotional clarity (Herz, 2016) used to define identity, intention, and environment (Classen, Howes & Synnott, 1994). This experience reduces vigilance, making our emotions more stable (McEwen, 2007); it supports mood regulation (Panksepp, 1998), and strengthens cultural belonging (Assmann, 2011).

Pairing Note
Aroma: When bedding or clothing carry a scent you enjoy, the aroma takes over the space and gives the environment a clear aromatic definition (Classen et al., 1994). For people who appreciate the scent, the defined environment reduces safety scanning and allows attention to settle, calming the body’s physiological and mental state (Panksepp, 1998; McEwen, 2007). For those who do not, the mind increases scanning because the aromatic cue does not register as stable or preferred.
Body-care: Aroma paired with body-care becomes an aromatic surface experience. Botanicals mark identity on the skin and carry meaning through their scent (Classen et al., 1994). When body-care is shared between partners, the combination of touch, warmth, and preferred aroma creates a deeply intimate state because the messenger signals from skin contact and scent align. This alignment produces a high-pleasure relational euphoric experience that is stronger than massage alone. Aroma anchors the moment, and supports a stable and strong physiological and mental pattern that amplifies the closeness (Panksepp, 1998; McEwen, 2007). When the aroma is not preferred, scanning increases and the experience becomes unstable, leading some individuals to withdraw because the messenger response signals “not good” or “too much.”
