Beach Vibes Mandala Cotton Tapestry
Cotton woven into a circle 70 inches (178 cm) across forms this mandala tapestry, edged with crochet lace.
Mandala is the Sanskrit word for circle. The form is first recorded in the Rig Veda, a collection of Hindu hymns composed between about 1500 and 500 BCE, and its designs lead the eye from the outer rim toward a central point. Tibetan monks sometimes make mandalas from colored sand, then wipe them away to show that all things are impermanent.
Hung from a single point, the circle becomes the center of a wall. Spread flat, it covers a bed, a table, or a patch of lawn or sand.
Color affects how people respond to a mandala print.
Our attraction to particular colors stems from cone photoreceptors sending wavelength information through visual and limbic pathways, affecting our emotional and physiological states (Elliot & Maier, 2014). Soft greens and pastels elicit calming, low-arousal responses; vivid blues heighten alertness and energy; muted oranges and deep reds evoke warm, grounded emotional states; and saturated neutrals support mood during low-sunlight seasons (Palmer & Schloss, 2010; Schloss et al., 2017). People choose colors because they align with the emotional regulation they need. Any product’s palette can meet these visual-emotional needs.
